Power-to-X

Enabling the transition to low-carbon solutions through pioneering power-to-X technology development.

Our clients are addressing the challenge of achieving net zero without increasing the cost of energy, food and materials. We support them by developing power-to-x solutions that use less energy, operate at larger scales, last longer, are made from more abundant materials, and are cheaper to build and maintain.

Accelerate the energy transition by developing pioneering power-to-X technologies

Meeting net-zero targets requires the development and scale-up of power-to-X technologies to convert renewable energy into other useful forms such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, synthetic fuels or sequestered carbon, or to provide energy storage solutions to provide additional grid stability and energy security. All of these domains involve complex, interdependent products, technologies, and systems.

TTP works with start-ups, scale-ups, and global corporates to tackle their challenges in the development of power-to-X technologies. Our clients need to balance competing factors from delivery against ambitious timescales to reducing the capital cost of equipment; from maximising economies of scale to achieving the lowest levelized cost of production.

Our experience includes electrochemistry, power electronics, systems engineering, techno-economics, front-end engineering design, design for unit operation and pilot scale testing. We can bring deep-domain expertise in chemical engineering, material science, catalyst deposition and process development, sensor technologies and technical risk management.

TTP’s clients benefit from the combination of skills, expertise, and facilities to take their new technologies commercially from lab to manufacture & deployment.

Job Role

Scaling up green ammonia production with Nium
TTP became an extension of the team and very quickly understood what we were trying to do, by asking us the right questions they helped us to get to the right outcome quickly. The research was detailed and added value beyond the knowledge we held in the team. They enabled us to move from lab scale to a scale that demonstrated the ammonia production using full process kinetics, all within a tight timescale.

INNOVX partners with TTP to develop sustainable technologies in Morocco

This initiative will support OCP’s ambitious Green Ammonia program, targeting the annual production of 3 million tons of green ammonia mainly dedicated to the production of sustainable plant nutrition solutions by 2032. This new venture will also provide technology development and scale-up to client companies for accelerating the Green Energy transition.

“This partnership goes beyond collaboration. It demonstrates our commitment towards pioneering sustainable energy solutions for the future. With TTP’s technological capabilities by our side, we are building strong foundations for a sustainable industry.”

How we can help

Electrochemical device modelling and optimisation
Power electronics and magnetics
Project FEL (front-end loading)
Scale-up, prototyping and demonstration of novel processes
Design for manufacture and assembly

Electrochemical device modelling and optimisation

Multiphysics modelling of novel cell types to generate, optimise, and validate first of a kind designs in combination with targeted testing for accelerated development

Power electronics and magnetics

All PTX systems rely on renewable electricity, often accounting for a large fraction of system cost. We develop custom, cost optimised solutions from the component to the system level.

Project FEL (front-end loading)

Pre-feasibility, feasibility and pre-FEED studies for first of a kind developments. We provide Techno-economic analysis that draws on our deep expertise in science and engineering plus our experience in equipment development.

Scale-up, prototyping and demonstration of novel processes

Advancing TRL level, from lab to container scale and beyond, overcoming the difficulty inherent in scaling processes that don’t scale linearly. We have extensive experience in dealing with the technical challenges that arise when increasing the linear scale of many systems, e.g. fluidic, gaseous etc.

Design for manufacture and assembly

PTX systems tend to have modular elements repeated many times to meet necessary scale, requiring factory-built equipment produced in large volumes. We are experienced in designing for large volume manufacture, and in developing the capital equipment required to support that including automation and quality control systems
