TTP routinely creates and applies new technologies, and much of our success is down to the fact that we are able to turn these new technologies into manufacturable products.
The Mundipharma network’s K-Haler® exemplifies this: as winner of the A’ Design Platinum Awards for ‘Scientific Instruments, Medical Devices & Research Equipment Devices’ and ‘Ease of Use and Universal Design’, this inhaler incorporates novel enabling technology in a package that addresses several of the day-to-day challenges faced by patients who use an inhaler.
At the heart of the K-Haler is the patented k-valve®– a uniquely simple breath-triggered valve mechanism that releases the dose when the patient inhales. TTP took the original concept for the k-valve and demonstrated a successful manufacturing solution for the technology.
TTP then helped develop another key usability technology: the dose counter. As with the k-valve, TTP developed designs and production methods to overcome manufacturing challenges.
As a result, Mundipharma has launched a device that is not only smaller than other inhalers with similar functionality but also has a simpler mechanism, resulting from the use of fewer components.
