Diversity, equity and inclusion inside TTP

We are a community of individuals brought together by our love for invention and the desire for our work to make an impact, bringing the benefits of technology to all.

The diversity within our teams seeds creativity, opportunities to learn, and provides better outcomes for our clients. Our diversity takes many forms, both visible and invisible. We have biologists working alongside mechanical engineers; women, men and non-binary colleagues; people of different faiths and no faith; individuals who were the first in their families to go to university and others whose parents were professors; neurodivergent and neurotypical ways of thinking; and a wide range of rich cultural heritage.

We all have our own stories, backgrounds and experiences. The things that make us, ‘us’. Within our community, we want to celebrate these stories and for everyone to feel like they belong, are valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Our strategy

As part of our company-wide approach to diversity, equity & inclusion, we have three core, long-term strategies: belonging, development, and recruitment.

Each year, we implement actions within these areas and build on our progress.

Belonging

All colleagues feel that they belong within our community.

As a community, we come together to have fun, as well as to support and learn from each other.

Facilitating connections is important in ensuring people feel welcomed into TTP and that they can thrive within our workplace. This is why our Activities & Community Fund exists, supporting a diverse range of interests – from art club, to our rock band and several sports groups (badminton, running and martial arts to name just a few) – and helping to bring people together.

We also understand that not everyone’s experiences will be the same and so our Employee Networks – including our Pride, Women’s and Parents & Carers’ groups – provide spaces for people who identify within a specific demographic, or who are experiencing similar challenges, to come together, share advice and ensure no-one feels alone.

For those new to TTP, we host welcome events, provide buddies and mentors, helping people to meet others and make those connections.

Culturally, we are non-hierarchical in mindset: everyone has a voice and a contribution to make, whilst trust and freedom are core to our values. We encourage open, thoughtful conversation and, if there’s groups or initiatives that don’t currently exist which you would like to, there’s always a listening ear and an open mindset towards new ideas.

A diversity of brilliant people progress here

We want to help people forge long-term careers within TTP.

Everyone has the freedom and responsibility to steer their own careers. And, as individuals, we may need slightly different things to thrive; and we face different challenges at different times of life. Our family friendly leave supports people as they become parents, whilst our Returnity scheme helps the transition back to work, as does our buddy scheme for new parents. We also provide access to expert support for those facing challenges as they experience menopause.

To help ensure there’s an environment where anyone can think and work effectively, we have a range of spaces on our campus:

From standing desks, to cosy booths, studies, benches by our duck pond and an outdoor walking trail. Whilst we work with external experts Neurobox to help support our neurodivergent colleagues – and raise awareness of neuroinclusivity within our community.

Individuals have the freedom to work across projects and teams, but where possible, we publish vacancies internally to help those considering a more formal move to a new part of the business identify options.

Our aim is to foster careers that provide continuous opportunities for learning, surprising yourself, and which can evolve with you.

Recruitment

We recruit from a broader pool of talent

Hiring a diverse range of talent is crucial for our business success.

Our focus is ensuring our opportunities are accessible to a wide range of people, that our selection process is fair and equips people to put their best selves forward, and that we do our part to nurture the next generation of STEM Talent.

Some key actions we’ve taken in this area include:

- Co-founding Cambridge LaunchPad, which inspires school students across Cambridgeshire by providing a glimpse into the world of STEM industry. Our project days see students spend a day on our campus designing their own surgical tool

- Training our interviewers to ensure best practice and raise awareness of unconscious bias

- Implementing contextualisation into our early careers recruitment, allowing us to understand the context in which academic grades were achieved and spot outperformers who’ve excelled in challenging environments

- Launching our TTP Future Scholars scheme, providing work experience, financial support and mentoring to students from backgrounds under-represented within STEM

- We sponsor a range of events, often participating in networking, as well as delivering talks and workshops. Recent activities include Bright Network’s Women in TEC and the Rising Festival.
