Field Applications Engineer

Description

As part of its Satellite and Space business TTP has developed a groundbreaking product line to enable Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to establish reliable communications via a satellite link. The products were developed in partnership with Viasat/Inmarsat’s Aviation Business unit, who have a strong track record in providing Aviation Safety products to commercial aviation.

TTP has started low volume manufacturing of the products under the ‘Gotonomi’ brand and have delivered early product prototypes with airtime contacts to lead developers. Considerable interest has been generated in the product due to its market-leading specification in terms of low Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C).

TTP expects high growth in the emerging UAV market, especially once regulators have established the requirements for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation. We have sight of numerous strategic partnerships with key players in the industry. Many of these will be dependent on successful trials and proving the performance.

The role

You will have the opportunity to join the team as both a Field Applications Engineer for Gotonomi and a general test engineer for the Satellite & Space team. You will support on-site test programmes with both our customers and our partner in Viasat.

Responsibilities include:

  • Testing for regulatory and type approvals as we complete development and launch a commercial product line.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with members of Viasat’s support team.
  • Acting as the primary technical support contact for customers, after point of sale, to assist customers installing and using the products.
  • Fulfil a role to link the customer technical teams with the expertise and resources available at TTP, on Gotonomi and other client projects.
  • Reporting, maintaining and resolving issue-logs, including installation, integration, and design issues.

Requirements

Your application will stand out if you have:

  • Experience as a field applications engineer, supporting customer testing and trials in radio communications equipment.
  • Experience of working on-site at customer locations
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of radio communications systems, especially satcomms
  • Experience of use of electronics and RF test and measurement equipment
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems, and IP networking configuration and operation
  • A commitment to customer success and proactive problem-solving
  • Ability to handle technical issues calmly and effectively in customer environments
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team

We expect there to be significant travel associated with this role, with potentially one week per month on the road.
